Funeral services to honor the life of Rev. Owens will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Camp Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Reverend Russell Franklin Owens, 61, of 1004 Winding Creek Road, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, December 29, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Travelers Rest, he was a son of the late Frank and Ella Mae Batson Owens.

Russell was a graduate of Tabernacle Baptist College in Greenville and was a missionary pastor with Baptist International Missions Inc. since 1979. He and Faye served in Nova Scotia, Canada, for 23 years as church planters and did relief work in Alaska and Canada for the past 5 years. He was the missionary pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Yarmouth, NS, and Emmanuel Baptist Church in Saulnierville, NS. Russell had a great passion and love for his Canadian church members and friends.

He was a United States Army veteran of Vietnam, having served with the 70th Combat Engineers.

Surviving are his loving wife, Faye Patterson Owens of the home; a daughter, Missy McCall, and her husband, Joel, of Easley; two sons, Frank Owens of Dacusville and Ben Owens of Liberty; four grandsons, Dusty and Carson Owens, Taylor McCall, and Ethan Colucci; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Owens.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Brandon Owens.

Rev. Owens will always be loved so much by his family and friends all over the United States and Canada.
